# Ideas

Raw ideas worth keeping track of. Not goals, not commitments — just things
worth not losing.

**Format**: each entry is a heading with the date it was captured, in
parentheses, at the end — `## <idea> (YYYY-MM-DD)` — followed by a short
description. The date is when the idea was written down, not when (or if)
it's pursued.

## Laser-cooled kiln quartz for telescopes and HUDs (2026-10-26)

A quartz-like material, 6 inches to 6 feet thick, grown in kilns but cooled
with lasers controlling exactly how fast it cools down, instead of a plain
furnace ramp. That controlled cooling rate is what creates work inside the
material itself — unique shapes forming within the block, not just on its
surface. Telescope optics and heads-up-display elements as the first
applications.
