# Requirements

Infrastructure the future needs, that doesn't fully exist yet.

## A competitive internet root

No single person, company, or government should control top-level domain names. Instead: a community of
registrars operating under shared agreement, where whoever registers a TLD first maintains the compute
resources behind it, for a small maintenance fee — and anyone willing to run it for less can bid to take
over maintenance. First-come governance, but never a permanent monopoly.

## A galactic network

A communication layer, built on whatever quantum-computing or physics breakthrough makes it possible,
that transmits data instantly across arbitrary distance — not bound by the speed of light. Aspirational
today. A requirement eventually, if humanity actually leaves the solar system.
